Akperan Orshi Polytechnic is a state-owned polytechnic that is located in Yandev, Benue State. Akperan Orshi Polytechnic was formerly known as Akperan Orshi Polytechnic College of Agriculture.
Akperan Orshi Polytechnic was established in 1925 by the British as a farm center under the colonial administration then.
In 1973, which was prior to the independence of Nigeria, the farm center was upgraded to the School of Agriculture, offering an Ordinary National Diploma (OND).
In 1983 the institution was upgraded from School of Agriculture to College of Agriculture, making the institution capable of awarding a national diploma. The current name the institution bore was renamed in 1992 in honor of the traditional ruler of TIV land, His Royal Highness Orchiviligh (Dr.) James Akperan Orshi, Tor Tiv III.
Years after the institution gained more mileage, as the institution was upgraded from college status to polytechnic status in 2020 by the Benue State, empowering the university to award ND and HND certificates and, lastly, postgraduate diplomas.
Akperan Orshi Polytechnic’s mission is its mandate in training and research and to provide science and technical courses leading to the award of National & Higher National Diploma certificates in agriculture, engineering, science, technology, management, and vocational training.
