Requirement for Direct Short Service Commission Course 29/2026

● Applicant must be Nigerian

● Male and Female The applicant must be between the ages of 20 and 32 years by March 2026, while the medical consultant must be between the ages of 20 and 45 years.

● Be medically, mentally, and physically fit according to NA standards.

● Be recommended and attested for his/her good character by at least two recognized referees who are local government chairmen/secretaries or officers of the Armed Forces not below the rank of lieutenant colonel, equivalent to the office of assistant commissioner of police, and the above-mentioned officer should be from the applicant’s state of origin.

● Passport/photograph of the referee must be attached to the letter of attestation.

● Applicant must submit a letter of attestation from a former institution.

● The male applicant must be at least 1.68 meters tall.

● The female applicant must be at least 1.65 meters tall.

● Must be free from any case or must not have been convicted by law

● Officers who are currently serving and want to apply must be free from any disciplinary action.

● Possess at least a second upper division or HND of not less than upper credit from any accredited institution

● Applicants must possess a valid birth certificate endorsed by the National Population Commission, hospital, or local government council, or a valid age declaration.

● Possess a valid state of origin certificate.

● Applicants must possess an NYSC discharge certificate or valid exemption certificate as appropriate.

● Graduates with professional qualifications must be duly registered by relevant regulating bodies recognized by Nigerian laws at the commencement of cadet training.

● Only post-secondary academic credentials obtained from 2014 to date will be considered.

● Applicants must present valid contact addresses and telephone numbers of parents/guardians and next of kin.

● Candidates must not belong to any cult/society/fraternity.

● Candidates with the ability to swim will have an added advantage.

● Service personnel must present valid military identity cards and letters of recommendation from their commanding officers/commanders.

● Nigerian Army Engineers

Applicants must possess a minimum of a BSc (Eng), B Eng (Second Class Upper), or HND (Lower Credit) degree in any of the following areas: Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Building Technology, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Land Surveying, Geology, Geographic Information System, and Estate Management.

Academic qualifications of applicants must be registered with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) or relevant professional bodies.

● Nigerian Army Signals

Applicants must possess a minimum of a BSc (Second Class Lower) degree or HND (Lower Credit) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, Software Engineering, or other relevant fields. Knowledge of CISCO/CCNA certification and programming experience will be an added advantage.

● Nigerian Army Medical Corps

1.Medical and Dental Consultants of Various Disciplines:

Applicants could belong to fields such as general surgery, orthopedic surgery, anesthesia, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, ENT surgery, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, medicine, psychiatry, radiology, pathology, and family medicine.

Applicants must have completed training and be in possession of a fellowship from either the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria or the West Africa College of Physicians and Surgeons.

2.Medical Doctors (Non-Consultants):

Applicants must possess a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent and must be fully registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

3. Nurses

Applicants must be registered nurses and be in the following categories: midwifery, pediatrics, orthopedics, anesthetics, nephrology, accident and emergency, and the mentioned specialty.

Applicants must also be fully registered with the relevant Nursing and Midwifery Council.

4 Professionals Allied to Medicine:

Applicants must possess a degree in one of the following: optometry, biomedical engineering, pharmacy, dental technology, health administration and management, medical laboratory science, radiography, physiotherapy, health information management, nutrition and dietetics, occupational therapy, speech therapy, or clinical psychology.

Applicants for Pharmacist must possess a Bachelor of Pharmacy and must be fully registered with the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria.

● Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers:

Applicants must possess a minimum of a BEng, BSc (Eng), or HND (lower credit) in electrical, electronics, mechanical, mechatronics, computer, weapon, marine, or automotive engineering or other relevant fields.

● Nigerian Army Education Corps:

Applicants must possess a minimum of a BSc/Ed or BA/Ed (Second Class Lower) degree in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Computer Science, French, English Language, Geography, Library/Information Science, History, Islamic Studies, or Christian Religious Knowledge.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

a. The DSSC will be granted for 15 years. DSSC officers who convert to Direct Regular Commission (DRC) can serve a full career in the Army. Conversion is based on performance and availability of vacancy.

b. The reckonable period of service for conversion shall commence from the effective date of commission.

c. Conversion to DRC is not automatic but based on eligibility and the recommendation of the appropriate superior authority.

d. All graduating officer cadets must sign an acceptance of the terms and conditions of the DSSC before they are granted commission into the NA.

e. The minimum period of service for conversion shall be 3 years.

f. Medical consultants on successful completion of military training shall be granted the rank of major.

g. Officer cadets who successfully complete the military training shall be granted the rank of lieutenant.
